No, I’m not going to make up some crap about Gronkowski getting traded just to get hits. If you want to know my thoughts about that, read this post from early April. Besides Gronk, the other tight ends currently on the Patriots roster are: Dwayne Allen, Jacob Hollister, Ryan Izzo, and Will Tye.
Here’s a brief look at each tight end not named Gronk.

Dwayne Allen -
  • 6’3” 265 lbs
  • 28 years old
  • #8 cap hit on team
  • $5 million cap hit for this year and $7.4 million for next
  • No dead money on release before September
  • Was targeted 22 times last season and had 10 receptions.
  • Has had 6 seasons in the league.
  • 140 career touches with 3 fumbles.

  • loves to block and it is one of his strengths
  • not related to Larry Izzo
  • Caught 3 of 3 targets during preseason debut
Will Tye-
  • 6’2” 260
  • 26 years old
  • cap hit is $705 k
  • has bounced around the league a little
  • had 4 catches for 48 yards against the Patriots during 2017 preseason

In my opinion the most obvious tight end to not make this year’s team is Dwayne Allen. Having gone to a few practices he has not turned my head for a good reason even once. Recently Belichick talked him up a bit, but I think that’s just trying to spark some interest for a possible trade. The way Allen was clutching at his ribs/abs Tuesday during camp may make it harder for Bill to work a trade. Regardless of being able to get anything for him, he’s not making this year’s roster unless he takes a major cut in salary.
