To go along with the shortened season, the MLB is also making two temporary rule changes for player safety. One rule will be evident when watching teams from the National League as they will be using a designated hitter. The other rule will occur when teams have to take the game into extra innings. Instead of starting with cleared bases, they will start the inning with a guy on 2nd base. The following is a look at how current Red Sox players have hit when there was a guy on 2nd.

Traditionally MLB teams play their 60th game during either the 1st or 2nd week of June. With this being well before the All-Star Break and all of the various deadlines, it doesn't necessarily represent what will happen when teams know that their season is 60 games. Nevertheless, here's a look at the past 6 years of the AL East through 60 games.
Winning the big game in February is a surefire way to get Bill Belichick to smile. While he would probably avoid the question like nobody's business, winning it the same year Brady departed to the Sunshine State would likely be extra sweet.
