To go along with the shortened season, the MLB is also making two temporary rule changes for player safety. One rule will be evident when watching teams from the National League as they will be using a designated hitter. The other rule will occur when teams have to take the game into extra innings. Traditionally MLB teams play their 60th game during either the 1st or 2nd week of June. With this being well before the All-Star Break and all of the various deadlines, it doesn't necessarily represent what will happen when teams know that their season is 60 games.
