Last week I wrote an article about how quick possessions were dooming the Patriots. Today I spent a few minutes looking at what happens when they have a possession lasting at least two minutes.
As has been the trend for recent Patriots seasons, if the team can just get a first down they are almost guaranteed to put points on the board. With 4 games under their belts they have scored on 76% of their possessions lasting at least 2 minutes. Had Gostkowski not missed a field goal on the opening drive of week two, the rate would be 82%. While these numbers are pretty impressive themselves, the fact that just under 50% of these possessions led to touchdowns is amazing.
