After completely "screwing the pooch" the other day with his boneheaded in game decision, John Farrell made a good call heading into Sunday's matinee against Houston.
The great decision Farrell made on Sunday was to have David Ortiz play first base. By putting Ortiz on first, Farrell is fixing two problems with one move. Having him play first obviously helps by taking this year's consistent offensive weak link, Mike Napoli, out of the lineup. One of the other obvious weak links in this year's lineup is the defense of Hanley Ramirez. Obviously if Ortiz is at first, sliding Hanley into the DH role is a no brainer. While I was pretty glad to see the move on Sunday, I do of course need to point out that I had the same idea earlier in the season. As a matter of fact, I tweeted about it in mid-June.
