If you are heading into this week's game relatively unfamiliar with the Patriots' opponent, you are definitely not alone. Lucky for you, I posted a little bit about the team on Friday. Lucky for all of us, you know Bill Belichick and his team know everything there is to know about the Jaguars.
To say that the Patriots need to play 60 minutes today would be a cheap way of just agreeing with Belichick. While that makes for a great sound bite, it isn't super accurate. In reality, they need to play more than 60 minutes. Although the game clock may not be running, they need to be working hard from the start to the finish. With a quarterback who is known for his ability to scramble, the defense can never relax when they think the play may be over. Obviously, I'm not suggesting that the Patriots get stupid and make plays after the whistle blows, because that will just lead to penalties.
Speaking of penalties, that's something else the Patriots need to get better at this week. Last week they had 11 penalties for a total of 119 yards. Amazingly, they only gave the Bills one free first down while the Bills gave us 3. While it's pretty hard to play a complete game without any penalties, it really comes down to not getting any stupid ones (see the Bills in last week's game).
