- Josh Boyce working on kickoff returns
- There might be a fight over who gets to wear number 28 for the team this year: On Tom Brady's first two plays from scrimmage against the defense, the two men wearing 28 were highly involved. The first play was a 20 yard completion down the right sideline to running back James White. The second play was then broken up by the other #28 rookie Darryl Roberts.
- Jimmy Garoppolo's play from scrimmage would have resulted in a sack in an actual game. His next play was an incomplete pass in the middle of the field. Third time was a charm for Jimmy as he connected on a deep ball to Josh Boyce. Play four went to rookie wide receiver Chris Harper (remember that name).
- During short yardage plays the first one was a short pass to LeGarrette Blount.
- When the defense was focused on stopping the run, Patrick Chung was used as the running back.
- Back for kickoff returns were: Danny Amendola, Travaris Cadet, James Develin and Robert McClain. During the drills Develin did a great job fielding a squib kick.
- James White was catching a significant number of passes. Seeing this, most fans are dubbing him the next Shane Vereen.
- Back to the fight for #28: During punting practice Darryl Roberts was doing a great job getting downfield on coverage. Meanwhile James White was fielding punts.
- Rookie DB Jimmy Jean made his way into my notes by breaking up a pass.
- Aaron Dobson appears to be Garoppolo's favorite target so far.
- Josh Boyce snagged a nice 40yarder out of the air sent by Jimmy.
- Cadet turned a quick pass into a big play.
- Fielding punts at the end of practice were Amendola, Chung and Harper.
- Once again I found myself see who is wearing #14. The rookie wide receiver Chris Harper has caught my eye at every practice I've attended. While he has looked good enough as a receiver to make the team, seeing him being used as a punt returner makes it even more likely that he will be around in the fall. (and no David, I'm not just saying that because you got his autograph)
- Rookie DB Darryl Roberts had another terrific break up of a deep pass.
- The two times the field goal unit took to the main field was wildly entertaining. Stephen Gostkowski sailed a short kick through the uprights and into a Trader Joes bag that a fan was holding out for him to kick into. Later my friend Brian got into the action as a successful kick ended up in his hands. Not bad for having your phone in your other hand.
