4 THOUGHTS FOR PATRIOTS FANS

5/22/2015

It's Memorial Day weekend and the Red Sox have averaged a measly 2.32 runs per game for the month of May.  To put that in perspective, the Bruins average 2.55 goals per game this season.  In other words, the Bruins would be outscoring the Red Sox by .23 points per game.  Luckily for the Red Sox, most of New England is still focusing a good amount of their sports' energy on the Patriots. Here are four thoughts regarding Revis, Goodell, Kraft and the NFLPA.
REVIS- When asked about the whole Deflategate issue this week, Revis pretty much called the Patriots and Brady cheaters.  I can't wait until week 7 when Belichick exposes a weakness he found when Revis played for the Patriots this season.  With the Jets playing Chip Kelly's Eagles week three, don't be shocked to see Revis have a rough game.

GOODELL- When asked about officials not following protocol and the leaks coming out of the NFL headquarters during the peak of the Deflategate investigation, Goodell danced around the questions.

  • Bill Leavy, the official in charge of the game balls during the Jets game (you know the game where the balls measured 16 psi after the game) has retired as an official and will be some sort of supervisor of NFL Referees in the West Region.
  • Two months ago I posted my theory that Deflategate  could really be an internal investigation to determine the source of the leaks coming from the NFL headquarters.  With all the random twists, turns and continuous leaks, I still think this is possible.

KRAFT- Like most fans I was extremely disappointed in Kraft's about face the other day.  In my opinion he should have just told us fans that he isn't appealing the punishment because there isn't an appeal option for owners. He could then further explain that the only way to appeal a ruling is by actually suing the NFL.  Once again this isn't an option that is viable since the owners have an agreement with the league not to go that route.  In short, if Kraft  were to try and appeal the ruling through the court system he would likely be forced out of his position and have to sell the team.

BRADY SUSPENSION/NFLPA-   Should Goodell drop Brady's suspension to zero games, this might actually be a loss to both Brady and the other players.  The NFLPA will stand to benefit by taking the NFL and Goodell to court in that just a few weeks ago the Missouri Supreme Court determined that Goodell could not be the arbitrator for player issues in that state. With that precedent set, this case could further reduce his power.  Besides possibly taking a lawsuit out of the NFLPA hands, a reduction would also make it appear that Brady's suspension was removed because of Kraft's willingness to kiss up to Goodell a few months after saying he demanded an apology.
