WITH THE 95th PICK IN THE 2018 DRAFT THE PATRIOTS (SHOULD) PICK MICAH KISER

Sometimes you get sidetracked when researching a topic. Sometimes you just know a player is going to be something special. While I know the first thing to be true by this post not being what I started to research yesterday, I just have one of those hunches for the second. But let me tell you, it's a really strong hunch. Kind of like when I wrote about Dylan Cole last year.

So who is Micah Kiser and why should the Patriots take him in round 3?

MEASURABLES- Kiser is an inside linebacker out of UVA with the following measurables:

• 240 lbs
• 9 3/8" hands
• 32" arms
• 3 cone- 7.05 seconds
• broad jump- 121"
• vertical- 35.5"
• 20 yard shuttle- 4.24 seconds
• ​40- 4.66 seconds

STATISTICS AND AWARDS- Besides having a pretty good body for the position, he also has some pretty impressive college statistics and awards.

• Led the ACC in tackles 3 years in a row
• 2017 Campbell Trophy (college football player with best combination of academics, community service, and on-field performance)
  
• 2017 Dudley Award (state's top D1 college football player)

MULTI-SPORT ATHLETE- You knew I would go there. In high school Micah also played basketball and lacrosse. As a lacrosse player he was viewed as one of the best in the state. With Micah attending high school in the state of Maryland, that's a pretty big accomplishment. Should he wanted to, the midfielder could have easily played lacrosse in college. According to his father, Micah was also a speedy swimmer at the age of 6.

CHARACTER- If the NFL draft was based on the character of the athletes, Micah would be gone early day one.

• ​After the deadly protesting that occurred on UVA's campus last fall, Kiser gathered up his teammates to take back the campus by organizing a team photo on the Rotunda's steps.
• After seeing two freshman arrive late for practice, the senior sent them home in true Bill Belichick fashion.

​If these two examples don't show you what a leader this guy is, it won't take but one search of his name to find many more.

FUN FACTS-

• ​Kiser played high school football and basketball with Patriots cornerback Cyrus Jones. Jones graduated a year ahead of Micah.
• ​Has a Bachelors in Foreign Affairs. This year he worked towards his Masters in Higher Education.
• After football he plans to pursue a career as an athletic director.
