We all know that Bill Belichick has a certain affinity for the United States Service Academies. Since President Trump reversed a Defense Department rule which required athletes from the service academies to fulfill their active-duty requirement before pursuing a professional sports career last summer, and the Air Force Academy had a pretty solid senior kicker, I think you know where I'm going.
Jake Koehnke had a pretty solid senior year as a kicker for the Falcons. He didn't miss a field goal attempt with his longest being good from 57 yards. Although he only made 13 attempts this season, going 4 for 4 against the Navy with 3 of the field goals going for 40+ yards surely garnered Bill Belichick's attention. While I can't confirm that the Patriots had a representative at his pro day, the pro day did occur. This offseason, that may be meaningful. I would also assume that any physicals performed by the Air Force would be acceptable to the Patriots organization.
In addition to kicking, if you were wondering if he can punt the answer is yes. Jake works with kicking guru Michael Husted. Husted also works with Patriots punter Jake Bailey. With his big leg, Jake is pretty impressive at kickoffs. If you go to his twitter page you'll see links to videos of his kickoffs sailing through the uprights with ease when he was just in high school.
