WILL THE BRUINS ESCAPE AN AVALANCHE IN COLORADO?

Zdeno Chara and Chad Johnson look to extend their winning streak tonight in Colorado.
After having two days off, the Bruins will have back to back games against two playoff contenders from the west.  Tonight they face off against the Avalanche and tomorrow they take on the Coyotes.  Both games are at 9:00 ET on NESN.  This will be the second and final time the Bruins face both teams this season barring a matchup in the Stanley Cup.
The first time the Bruins faced the Avalanche this season, the Red Sox were still waiting to find out who their ALCS opponent would be.  The Bruins were shutout in that game and ended up losing 2-0 after Matt Duchene put in an empty netter.  To say there was a lot of penalties during that game would be the understatement of the year as the Bruins had 31 minutes all by themselves.

Tonight the Bruins are looking for a different result and hope to extend their 10 game win streak at the expense of extending Colorado's three game losing streak.
During the ten game winning streak the Bruins have averaged 4.1 goals and held their opponents to 1.5.  While the Avalanche can not match the Bruins in goal scoring as of late, their 3.4 average over their past 10 games is still impressive and likely means that Chad Johnson (first off the ice) will have his hands full.  Although they may be able to put up a crooked number on the Bruins tonight, the Avalanche aren't likely to be able to stop the Bruins unless their defense improves drastically.  In their past 4 games Colorado has given up a total of 18 goals.  Semyon Varlamov and his .925 save percentage will be in net for the Avs tonight.

While the fact that this game is being played in Colorado does give the Avalanche a slight advantage, it is worth noting that the Bruins have gone 9-0-3 in their past twelve road games.  The fact that the schedule allowed for the Bruins to get to Colorado and get accustomed to the this air should also help a bit.
Since both teams are in the top 5 for winning percentage when scoring first, the first goal may serve to determine the winner.  Johnny Boychuck will still not be in the Bruins' lineup.  Claude Julien said he will not play until he is 100%.
