Everyone needs to pump the brakes on the Red Sox signing Pablo Sandoval. There is nothing about him that makes me desire the the Red Sox sign him in general, forget about the high price people are saying he'll fetch.
In order to have you better understand where I'm coming from I've taken a look at both his batting statistics as well as other players.
The first thing I want to show you is Pablo's career batting statistics compared to Dustin Pedroia's. It amazes me how everyone is complaining about Pedroia's numbers yet in the same breath want to sign Pablo at any cost.
Before I tell you who is who, look at those numbers. Keep in mind that Pedroia put up those numbers while playing for the Red Sox (think Carl Crawford). He has also been injured for the better part of the last 3 years.
If you haven't figured it out yet, Sandoval is on top and Pedroia is below him.
Next, I looked at good ole Xander Bogaerts' numbers in Boston. Not too shabby for a young guy who pretty much played his first major league season without a batting coach.
Finally, I compare super-utility player Brock Holt. I also have a breakdown of how Sandoval ranks with other MLB third basemen over the past two seasons.
