On the mound for the Red Sox tonight is John Lackey. Lackey is coming off a solid start against Baltimore where he gave up 3 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs over a course of six innings. The six runs of support Lackey was given was plenty enough for a win.
Throughout his career, Lackey has never been very successful against the Rangers. In his two starts against the Rangers last season, he refrained from giving up a lot of runs but didn't last very long in the game. Lackey's last start against the Rangers came on June 5th and lasted only 6 innings. Lackey only gave up one run in the game, but it took him 108 pitches to get through the 6th. The Rangers showed a lot of patience against Lackey during that game and took the first pitch 18 out of 24 times while he was in the game.
There may be a new face in the Red Sox lineup tonight as they signed third baseman Ryan Roberts to the squad to fill the gap left by Will Middlebrooks being placed on the DL with a calf strain. Speaking of calf muscles, David Ortiz and his calf muscle went to Concord, NH with Wally the Green Monster to launch a new Boston Red Sox scratch ticket today. For those attending tonight's game at Fenway Park, don't forget tonight is David Ortiz Bobblehead Night. If everyone could give their Big Papi bobblehead a calf massage that would be nice.
