WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN THE RANGERS COME TO FENWAY TONIGHT

Tonight the Red Sox host the Texas Rangers in game one of a three game series.  Although fans are probably glad to see the Brew crew leave, seeing the Rangers come to town isn't exactly a reason to cheer.
In the past 5 season the Rangers have been a bit of thorn in the Red Sox side.  The fact that the game is at Fenway doesn't change this a whole lot as the Rangers have won 13 out of the last 21 games in Boston.

On the mound for the Red Sox tonight is John Lackey.  Lackey is coming off a solid start against Baltimore where he gave up 3 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs over a course of six innings.  The six runs of support Lackey was given was plenty enough for a win.

Throughout his career, Lackey has never been very successful against the Rangers.  In his two starts against the Rangers last season, he refrained from giving up a lot of runs but didn't last very long in the game.  Lackey's last start against the Rangers came on June 5th and lasted only 6 innings.  Lackey only gave up one run in the game, but it took him 108 pitches to get through the 6th.  The Rangers showed a lot of patience against Lackey during that game and took the first pitch 18 out of 24 times while he was in the game.
Tanner Scheppers will be the first Texas pitcher the Red Sox face during this series.  Scheppers will be looking to rebound from his last outing as he only made it through 4 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 walks and 7 runs.  The Red Sox have seen very little of Scheppers and are a combined 0-9 against him.  Hopefully, having A.J. Pierzynski on their side will help the Red Sox bats wake up against his former team.  With this being the first game of the series, it will be beneficial to get to the Texas bullpen early.

There may be a new face in the Red Sox lineup tonight as they signed third baseman Ryan Roberts to the squad to fill the gap left by Will Middlebrooks
being placed on the DL with a calf strain.  Speaking of calf muscles, David Ortiz and his calf muscle went to Concord, NH with Wally the Green Monster to launch a new Boston Red Sox scratch ticket today.  For those attending tonight's game at Fenway Park, don't forget tonight is David Ortiz Bobblehead Night.  If everyone could give their Big Papi bobblehead a calf massage that would be nice.
