When it comes to hosting prime time games, the Broncos have a pretty impressive record in recent years. Of their most recent games, they've gone 15-4. If the Patriots want to make it 15-5, these are some things they need to do.
Win the Turnover Battle- Although the Patriots have managed to win many games when they've lost the turnover battle, winning the battle typically makes for a easier game. The Broncos have a 31 game winning streak when winning the turnover battle heading into tonight's contest.
Don't Become Predictable- If Von Miller can tee off on Tom Brady, it could be a very long game and long season. Assuming the offense doesn't get predictable, Miller won't be having a full set of steam heading towards #12.
Third Down Domination- The Broncos' offense is ranked 19th (37.6 %) for 3rd down conversions. The Patriots' defense is ranked 18th (40 %). If we can keep them to closer to 35%, and not allow the dreaded 4th down conversion we'll be in good shape.
When it comes to the other side of the ball, the Patriots have been pretty good with converting 3rd downs (3rd 45.9 %). Unfortunately the Broncos haven't allowed much success to their opponents as they are ranked #1 (26.7 %). I think a lot of this comes from Von Miller being pretty good at guessing the snap count and disrupting plays. The easiest way to avoid long third downs is by getting first downs earlier. Yes, easier said than done.
