While you may not agree with my opinion of not wanting to face either of these teams if we don't have to, you have probably put some thought into which teams you want to face. Because I like to think outside the box and often wonder "what if...", I had an idea for what could make playoff systems more intriguing. What if the team with the best seed got to pick their opponent? I think that would put a cool twist on tournaments and could really reward teams for their regular season records. In the case of the NHL playoffs, the Bruins would get to pick their opponent from the other 7 teams in the East. Assuming the Bruins didn't select the Penguins, they would get the next pick. After the first round is completed, the top team would get to pick its opponent for round two.
This style of pick your opponent tournament could be really entertaining in all levels of competitive sports. Of course this system would put extra pressure on coaching staffs to pick a team they can beat. I'm sure there would also be some built in motivation for teams being selected to knock off their selector.
