With the Celtics up 2 games to none against the Cavs, they might need just a little motivation to get through this extended time off.
While it's one of those things that high school and college coaches preach, defense isn't deemed as important in the NBA on a daily basis. Yes, everyone loves to see a blocked shot or a defensive stop in the last minute of play, but good solid defense from start to finish, not so much.
The final scores of the first two games were 108-83 and 107-94 respectively. Both wins and final scores were reflective of the Celtics playing solid defense for almost a full 48 minutes. While winning a game only requires you to score 1 more point than your opponent, if you can keep their point total down it becomes much easier.
For the 2017-2018 regular season the Cavs averaged just under 111 points per game. In games which they don't hit 3 digits they almost always lose. During the regular season the Cavs didn't score 100 points in 14 of their games. Their record for those games was 2-12. So far in the postseason the Cavs have been short of the century mark 6 times. Their record during those low scoring affairs is 1-5. On the other hand the Cavs are a perfect 7-0 in the playoffs when scoring at least 100.
