I like Jackie Bradley Jr. and do feel that what he brings to the team on defense is well worth keeping him around. Some people have a magic batting average they want him to hit to verify his worth. Wanting to see how his usually quiet bat influences the outcome of games, I looked at something neither Baseball Reference or Fangraphs could give me outright.
I decided to look at the game logs and see what happens to the Red Sox when JBJ scores a run or earns an RBI. This is what I found for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Red Sox Record When.....
- JBJ scores 2 or more runs- 9-1 (2017) 4-1 (2018).
- JBJ scores exactly 1 run- 27-10 (2017) 23-2 (2018)
- JBJ scores 1 or more runs- 36-11 (.766) (2017) 27-3 (.900) (2018)
Red Sox Record When.....
In 3 of the 2 RBI+ losses in 2017, JBJ drove in all of the Red Sox runs.
Very few of the games JBJ has had an offensive presence have been blowouts.
While I’m not going to try and come up with some conclusion, maybe Jackie Bradley is the anti-stat padder.
