At this time last year the Bruins were heading into the playoffs with the best seeding in the NHL. The Celtics were gathering up lucky charms hoping to win the lottery. The Patriots were preparing to draft players for the upcoming season. Last but not least, the Red Sox were in last place.
Now, the Bruins have their lockers cleaned out, their golf clubs in hand and Peter Chiarelli is without a job (I like this).
The Celtics are significantly different than they were a year ago and are going to keep the workers at the Garden employed for at least another week. The coach who some thought was just a placeholder for a year or two is turning out to be the real deal.

The Red Sox are in first place and sitting pretty at 6-2 with 51 runs scored. If we go back to the same time last year, the Red Sox had a record of 5-9 and had lost 3 in a row. They were in last place and had scored only 47 runs. If we back that up to their record after 8 games last season, they were 3-5 (1-4 at home) with only 31 runs in their favor. For the non-math wizzes out there, the Sox are +20 when it comes to runs in their first 8 games (2.5 per game). Let's hope that's a trend that continues.
