This afternoon John Lackey and the Red Sox will be looking to go above 500 for the second time this season. If they reach that milestone it will be the first time they have had a winning record since April 3.
In 5 of his 7 starts Lackey has held opponents to two runs or less. Unfortunately, he gave up six runs in both of his other two starts this season. With that, he currently has a 3.72 ERA heading into this game against Robbie Ross Jr. This season Lackey is having trouble going against righties.
This season is Ross' first year as a major-league starter. Prior to that he pitched in relief for the Rangers. Currently, it looks like the innings are catching up to him. As a relief pitcher his ERA was 2.22 in 2012 and 3.03 last season. Currently his ERA is at 4.74 but it is climbing each day he pitches. This will be Robbie's second time facing the Red Sox this season. He faced the Red Sox on April 9 and went 5 1/3 innings giving up two hits, six walks and one run.
