THOUGHTS FROM THE BOSTON SPORTS CHICK ON ASH WEDNESDAY

Red Sox prospect Christian Vazquez has thrown out all of the base runners he has faced in the past 2 spring training seasons.
BRUINS - First off, the Bruins didn't do anything that exciting today.  They picked up Corey Potter by claiming him off waivers from the Oilers and then they traded a third round pick to the Flyers for Andrej Meszaros.  So, they pretty much added some depth to the defense without bringing in any studs.  Although I would have liked to see them bring in some higher quality players, I'm not so sure I would be happy to see any of our current players traded away.  I guess we will have to wait until playoff time to see if Chiarelli made the right call here.
CELTICS- Lost again, but will not be able to gain ground on Philadelphia or Milwaukee in the lottery hunt.  Although I'm usually opposed to changing the rules in the middle of the game, I wouldn't mind seeing Adam Silver adjust the number of lottery numbers each of the tanking teams were to get this year.  Yeah, that's not going to happen.  If you are wondering who Adam Silver is, well he's the new NBA commissioner and he thinks all the teams are trying to win.

In tonight's loss Kelly Olynyk led the Celtics in scoring with 19 while Rajon Rondo led it minutes played with 37.

RED SOX- It's preseason so the 1-5 record and most of the statistics are pretty meaningless.  Christian Vazquez is the owner of one of the stats that deserves to be looked at.  In 9 innings of spring ball he is a perfect 3 for 3 with throwing out runners.  Last spring he was a perfect 5-5 in 54 innings.

PATRIOTS- Still playing the waiting game on contracts.  I really don't get the people who wanted to franchise Talib.  Guaranteeing him over $11 million for one year is foolish when his 2 year guarantee on a multi-year contract will still likely be around $16 million.  Glad to see via their twitter feeds that a lot of the young players are in New England working out and hanging with each other.
