THE RED SOX LOST OPENING DAY AND YOU WANT TO KNOW IF THAT'S GOOD OR BAD IN THE LONG TERM

Here's a look at some opening day and post-season results for the 2003-2019 Red Sox seasons.  With the 2020 season being so odd, I did not include it.  

Opening Day at Home-  This was the 4th time the Red Sox opened their season at home.  They won their previous 3 games.  

• 2009- Original game was postponed, they then beat the Rays 5-3.
• 2010- Beat the Yankees 9-7.
• 2017- Beat the Pirates 5-3

Opening Day on the Road-  The Red Sox have had 5 wins and 9 losses.  Against the AL East they are 1-5 in those games.  

Home Openers- Including the previously mentioned 3 victories, the Red Sox were 12-5 in home openers from 2003-2019.  

World Series Years-  

• 2004- The Sox lost both their opening game at Baltimore 7-2 and their home opener to Toronto 10-5.
• 2007- The Sox lost their opening game at Kansas City 7-1 and won their their home opener against the Mariners 14-3.
• 2013- Won both their opening day game 8-2 at the Yankees and their home opener against Baltimore 3-1.
• 2018- Lost their opening day game 6-4 at Tampa Bay and won their home opener versus the Rays 3-2.

Ring Celebration Games-

• 2005- Beat the Yankees 8-1
• 2008- Beat the Tigers 5-0
• 2014- Lost to the Brewers 6-2
• 2019- Lost to Toronto 7-5
