I hope you didn't come here looking for a pleasant surprise. This amazing statistic is sickening and probably why the games are so painful to watch.
Yes, yesterday the Patriots finished off a potential game winning drive with another turnover. Prior to that fumble they were +1 with turnovers for the day. This season the Patriots are 2-0 when they win the turnover battle, 0-3 when they lose it, and 0-2 when they are even. Looking back to the 2000 season the Patriots are 162-18 in the regular season when winning the turnover battle. When they lose the battle they have a losing record at 40-47. When they are even, they are 37-23.
This morning I perused the NFL Offensive Drive Stats that Jim Armstrong compiles on behalf of Football Outsiders. What I saw there wasn't pretty. The Patriots are the 32nd team in turnovers per drive. There are 32 teams in the NFL. The Patriots are typically one of the best teams at not turning the ball over. I had to go back to the 2013 season to find the most recent year that they weren't in the top 10 for any of the three turnover categories (turnovers, interceptions, and fumbles). Here's the compiled numbers. This year's numbers are from prior to yesterday's game.
