SHOULD THE CELTICS USE THEIR NUMBER ONE PICK ON LONZO BALL?

Yes, it really happened. The Celtics went into the draft lottery with the best chance of bringing home the top pick in this year's draft and they got it. Assuming the Celtics don't make a blockbuster trade and move down in picking order, here are my thoughts on who the Celtics should select.
Lonzo Ball- Sorry if I made you choke on something. I absolutely, positively, do not want the Celtics to pick Ball. Personally, I think he's going to be a huge bust. Other than having name recognition due to marketing, Lonzo doesn't possess any characteristics that make me think he'll be a game-changer. I actually think he'll end up being the NBA's version of Ryan Leaf. Although he may not get into trouble after his NBA career ends, I don't see him lasting very long.
So, what don't I like about him? As a freshman at UCLA he put up some decent numbers:
  • 14.6 points per game
  • 6 rebounds per game
  • 7.6 assists per game
  • 67.3% shooting free throws
These numbers were earned in 35.1 minutes of play by a 6'6" 190 pound 19 year old.

Also playing guard for the Bruins this season was the coach's son Bryce Alford. Here are his numbers for the past two seasons:
  • points per game 2017- 15.5 2016- 16.1
  • rebounds per game 2017- 2.5 2016- 3.8
  • assists per game 2017- 2.6 2016- 5.2
  • freethrow % 2017- 82.1 2016- 83.1
  • minutes per game- 2017- 33 2016- 36.3
Bryce earned those numbers standing at 6'3".
In my opinion, if you are truly ready to be a game changer in the NBA, your stats should jump off the page and not be similar to a teammate who is often questioned for his ability. Some other great points are brought up by Colin Ward-Henniger here. Colin points out the fact that Lonzo rarely shoots a regular two-point shot. His game consists of deep threes and layups. Additionally he seems to shy away from contact. I agree with Colin that these two flaws in his game are major. Additionally, Ball currently isn't a great defender. If he can't defend players who are going to use their college degrees, how is he going to defend fellow NBA players?

While Ball seems to be most touted for his passing ability, didn't the Celtics recently have a great assist man? Didn't everyone realize that a great passer needs to play with some great shooters?
