With yesterday's dramatic 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins, the Red Sox moved one game up in the AL East.

They also improved their extra inning record to 4-6 and their one-run record to 11-15. Having played less than 45% of their regular season games the Red Sox are by no means out of it. This is especially true considering they still have nine games against Baltimore, 12 games against New York, 10 games against Tampa Bay and 13 games against league leading Toronto.

While obviously the key to getting into the playoffs is winning more games, it is even more important if you can get those wins against teams within your league. With that being said I'm going to give you a quick look at the league standings going by two week increments.

While the Red Sox are heading out west to start their road trip against the Oakland Athletics, the Yankees and Blue Jays have one more game remaining in their series. The Blue Jays will then head to Cincinnati to face the Reds for a three-game series before returning home to play another three games against the Yankees. In the meantime, the Yankees will be hosting Baltimore over the weekend. To put it simply, the landscape of the AL East may change drastically before the Red Sox head into the Bronx to face the Yankees next weekend.  Of course if the Red Sox hit a slump out west when facing the Athletics and Mariners, the movement of the pieces above them may not matter at all.  The Red Sox are 2-1 against Oakland this season and have yet to face Seattle.
