Unlike like other former Boston athletes returning home for their first time in their new uniforms, there is no talk of whether fans will boo or cheer for Garnette and Pierce. Unlike other players in recent memory who left as free agents chasing the almighty dollar when their services were still welcome in New England, Kevin and Paul's departure was much more harmonious. Although it was painful to see them leave and realize our dreams of another championship would have to go on hold for a little bit, it really was a decision which benefited all of those involved.
The Nets come into Boston with a record of 19-22 which is good enough for the playoffs as of now. After having some early season struggles, they've been playing much better as of late and are 9-1 in their last ten games. Pierce will enter the game averaging 13 points and 5 rebounds per while while Garnett comes in averaging 7 points and 7 rebounds.
The Celtics do have a plan in place to honor both players tonight. Typically it involves a video tribute during a timeout. Besides the likelihood of two tributes tonight, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some extras thrown in considering we are honoring two players who brought us a championship and several playoff runs recently. Moreover, Paul Pierce played 15 season for the green and white and will have his #34 retired as soon as he stops playing. Whatever the tribute consists of, rest assured there will not be a dry eye in the house.
