PATRIOTS VS. TEXANS- GETTING BACK TO EVEN

While this game can't be looked at as being an automatic win for the Patriots, it is definitely one that they should win.
GAME PLAN- Last week Cam gushed about how good of a gameplan the Patriots had. Hopefully, Josh doesn't try to get cute with this week's plan. The Patriots have the 2nd best rushing attack and the Texans have the worst rushing defense. So, reason number one to run the ball. Other reasons off the top of my head:
  • The Patriots have several running backs who all deserve touches. As a unit they are averaging 4.8 yards per carry. Individually on the season they have gone for the following averages: Harris- 5.5, Burkhead- 4.2 and Michel-6.7.
  • Planned runs for Newton will be much better than trying to escape from or throw over JJ Watt.
  • Running the ball early and often eats up the clock and gives the defense a rest.
  • Although we might not see the benefit right away, everyone knows that playing defense against the run wears guys out.
DEFENSIVE BACK PLAY- There have been some deep ball struggles this season. As I pointed out last week, it seems like a lot of them are sideline catches which should never have been caught. While there will definitely be opportunities to go up and grab a gift from Watson, when it's third down and on the sideline, a little shove is all it takes. Since 17% of Watson’s passes are considered bad and the Patriots know a thing or about Cooks, today might put an end to Watson’s streak of clean games.

CLEAN GAME- When it comes to penalties, both teams don't commit many of them.  John Hussey's crew also calls less penalties than average.  Assuming the Patriots commit to running the ball, this could be a quick game.
FANS- Since NGR Stadium allows a limited number of fans and the Texans aren’t playing for much, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cam Newton plays his first game in front of Patriots fans.

ROMEO, ROMEO, WHEREFORE ART THOU ROMEO- Sorry Romeo, but Belichick needs to get back on pace for winning the most games in the NFL.
