PATRIOTS PREVIEW- WEEK 7 NEW YORK JETS

Today the Patriots take on their sometime rival Jets for first place in the AFC East.  This is what they need to do to remain undefeated.
OFFENSIVE LINE- The hodgepodge offensive line needs to be put in a position to succeed.  While many people were concerned about the musical chairs during the first few weeks of the season, I thought it was good in case of injuries.  Well, here we are in week 7 with a depleted offensive line.  Although the offensive line has had many changes, they are still ranked #1 when it comes to run blocking.  Hopefully this trend continues today and the Patriots aren't afraid to run against the Jets.  Yesterday I looked a little closer at who the Jets have played this season and concluded that their reputation as a run stopping defense isn't exactly earned.  In order to put the offensive line in a position to succeed, Brady needs to be reasonable with his changes at the line of scrimmage.

FIRST HALF- The Jets have shown to be a great 3rd quarter team this season.  Because of this the Patriots need to run the plays that are working for them in the first half instead of trying different looks just to see what the Jets are going to respond with.
FIELD POSITION- The Patriots average 40.39 yards per drive while the Jets average 29.89.  When it comes to field position the Jets are starting about 2 yards ahead of where the Patriots are.  Defensively the Patriots' opponents are starting at the 21.65 yard line while the Jets' opponents are starting at the 26.35 yard line.  Both teams are beating their opponents in the area of field position.  One place where the Jets are falling behind the Patriots is when it comes to punt coverage.  Although Ryan Allen hasn't punted very often, when he has the coverage has been great as his opponents are only averaging 5.4 yards per return.  Opponents of the Jets are averaging 23.7 yards per return.  Hopefully Matthew Slater is really ready to go today.

INTERESTING MATCHUP-  The Jets are #1 with pass protection and the Patriots are #5 with pass rush.
