PATRIOTS PREVIEW: WEEK 5 DALLAS

10/11/2015

3-0 and heading to the big "D" and I do mean Dallas.  While the outlook on this game is a lot different than we were anticipating in the preseason, there is still a game to be played.  Personally, I'm not sure if the game being in Dallas is more of a disadvantage to the Cowboys or the Patriots.
As most people know, the Patriots have been dominant at home in the Belichick, Brady era.  Conversely, the Cowboys have had their share of struggles at home.  Within the past two regular seasons the Cowboys have lost 6 regular season games, 5 of which were at home.  Unfortunately for Jerry Jones and crew, there was no way this match up would occur on a neutral site.
As usual, the Patrtiots should win the game unless they beat themselves.  If we continue to avoid three and outs (only 2 this season), and refrain from giving away the ball too often, we should leave Texas with another victory.

Although Tony Romo and Dez Bryant will not be on the field, the Cowboys still have a pretty strong passing game.  If you look at Brandon Weeden's statistics for this season, you will see that he's doing pretty well.  Now would I put him on my fantasy team today, that's a definite no.  Nevertheless, if he isn't getting sacked by his opponent he is completing 76% of his passes.  Currently he has 551 yards through the air on 45 of 59 passes.  He's also thrown 2 touchdowns while having only one pick.

While losing your starting quarterback and stud wide receiver usually puts a damper on your passing game, the Cowboys have managed to survive by leading the lead with targets caught (75.6%).  Additionally, the receivers are leading all others with lowest drop percentage (2.3%).  While all those passing statistics are great, I don't think they will be enough to carry the Cowboys to a victory today.  Instead I think it has given Matt Patricia and friends the motivation and film needed to give Weeden a reality check.  Yes, sometimes the Patriots struggle with quarterbacks who are relatively new, but not today.

Although they will probably give up some serious yards both in the air and on the ground, I'm expecting 5 sacks and 2 interceptions from the Patriots defense today.  Offensively, the Patriots will have a healthy combo of long and short scoring drives.  Rob Gronkowski will add to his touchdown receptions and LeGarrette Blount will have more touches than Dion Lewis.

Final score Patriots- 44 Cowboys- 17
