So what are some things I'm hoping the Patriots do in the next few weeks. Yes, I said weeks because I know Belichick has a penchant for finding guys that weren't on anyone's draft boards. I would definitely like to see and am expecting to see another quarterback on the Patriots' roster. Obviously, I don't see Brady going anywhere right now, but I think we need at least 3 quarterbacks on the roster next season. While I really don't care who the other guys are, I think one needs to be able to step into the system and run the show the same way Brady does and the other player needs to have a different skill set and be mobile. Right now the rumor of Mallett going to the Texans is flaring up again, so that might make today's draft even more intriguing.
Personally, I don't think we need to draft any wide receivers. I think the guys currently on the roster can get the job done. If you look at our current roster you will see that we already have guys that can work the sideline, middle of the field and go deep. I'm expecting second year player Mark Harrison to be able to step in and be a big target in the end zone for Brady this year. If not, I'm sure we will be able to pick up a veteran who gets cut from his team in August.
Regardless of what the Patriots do tonight, I'm sure there will be lots to talk about tomorrow. Whether they make a pick or trade up or down in the draft they are guaranteed to piss someone off.
After much anticipation the 2014 NFL draft will start tonight at 8 pm ET and be aired on ESPN and the NFL Network. As it currently stands the Patriots will be drafting the 29th player of the evening. With it being round one, only 32 prospects will be able to sleep soundly or party it up tonight. The rest will be stuck in waiting mode for at least one more day. While it is certain that 32 players' names will be announced tonight, it is uncertain whether any of those names will be called by the Patriots. Trying to predict what the Patriots will do tonight and the rest of this weekend might be harder to do than getting Bill Belichick to crack a smile. After all, Belichick has smiled before.
