MY THOUGHTS ON RONDO BEING TRADED TO THE MAVS

I like Rajon Rondo.  As a matter of fact, he was my favorite active Celtic player for almost a decade.  While I was really hoping that he stayed a Celtic, his departure seemed more evident as time passed.
The quick rundown of the trade is as follows:

Dallas gets Rajon Rondo and Dwight Powell
Bostons gets Brandon Wright, Jae Crawford and Jameer Nelson in addition to a conditional first round pick in 2015 and a second round pick in 2016.  This trade also results in a $12.9 million trade exception for the C's.

So, while there really aren't any big names besides Rondo involved in this trade, I do like it.  There are two main reasons why I like this trade.

Although I like Rondo a lot, I like this trade because it doesn't involve any of the other Celtic players who I enjoy watching.  While we may have been able to get a lot more in return if we had included someone like Kelly Olynyk or Jared Sullinger, I'd rather keep them on the team and get little.

The other reason I like this trade is the trade exception.  While the signing rules of the NBA are much more confusing than the NFL or MLB, a team having a trade exception close to $13 million is generally a good thing.  Of course since it is a trade exception it can only benefit the team if they complete a trade in which the incoming player makes a substantial amount of money.  Having previously established that Olynyk and Sullinger are two of my favorites, I'd obviously be very disappointed if a future blockbuster trade involved either of them.

Although it is not one of my main reasons for liking this trade, I do like the fact that he is in Dallas playing for the Mavericks.  Even though I don't have a favorite Western Conference team, the Mavs are one of the two Texas teams I have enjoyed watching over the years.  In addition they are owned by my favorite owner Mark Cuban.
