Well, 4pm has come and gone and Edelman did not agree to a contract with the Patriots. While many sources are reporting that Edelman and the Patriots are still talking, there are also reports of the Ravens being a potential suitor. Regardless of which teams besides the Patriots are interested in Edelman, I hope both the Patriots and Edelman learned from last year's Welker debacle.
Based on reports from today, it appears the Patriots and WR Julian Edelman could not come to terms before the 4 pm deadline. Earlier in the day it appeared that Edelman's offer was set to expire at the trade deadline. Many people looked at this deadline as a possibility that a signed contract with Edelman would mean that Danny Amendola would subsequently get released. The timing of releasing Amendola sooner rather than later would save the Patriots $2 million. What is that lesson you ask? I hope that both groups do in fact communicate fully with each other before either makes a deal which will make this extension/reunion impossible. Relying on an agent to be 100% accurate as a go between hasn't seemed to be the best bet at times. As a fan, I would much rather have a situation where the team and player couldn't agree than to have a miscommunication come between them.
