As of right now the Red Sox have scored a total of 280 runs. At this point last season they had scored 376 times which means that they are down 96 runs since this time last season. If you are thinking that last year may have been a bit of a fluke causing the discrepancy to appear larger than it really is, you would unfortunately be mistaken. Last year's total was actually pretty representative of the past 9 seasons. The 376 was actually the median (aka the middle number) of the list. Additionally, it was only one run higher than the 9 year average (aka the mean).
For those who really aren't fans of measures of central tendency and want me to cut to the chase, the Red Sox run production is down a whopping 25%.
