After 14 minutes of miserable football Thursday night, it looked like the Patriots were going to be right back in the game with a pick 6 by rookie Myles Bryant. A quick review took the points off the board and put the offense on the field. What happened 3 plays later was not what any New England fan wanted to see. Instead of it becoming a one score game, the Patriots were down 17-0. This got me thinking (again), "How often do we not score after a takeaway?"
Fast forward a few days and I went through all of the Patriots play by play data for the past 3 seasons to see what the offense did after a takeaway. Since field location, time left in half, and score of game matters a whole lot in respect to what I was looking at, I then focused on the takeaways which gave them a short field and reasonable opportunity to score. Here is what I found.
