Yesterday was the last Patriots practice for fans to attend. As always, it was a great day to take in some football action in Foxboro. Of course with the teams not fully padded up and moving at reduced speeds, it was a little hard to gather any new Intel. Regardless, here are my observations from yesterday and what I'll be looking for tonight.
Early in the practice when the teams were practicing their red zone offense, Patriot rookie linebacker Elandon Roberts had an interception. Of course based on the quick conversation he had with the coaches following it, he didn't exactly get the memo that they were allowing them to catch the ball.
Some observations from special teams practice include:
Tight End AJ Derby was heavily involved in kickoffs, as he was both on the kicking team and on the "hands team". Of course his appearance on the "hands team" was probably due to Gronk having the day off.
The practice punt return unit included rookies Cyrus Jones and Bryce Williams.
With Edelman and Amendola not healthy, back on kickoffs was Matthew Slater and Devin McCourty. Cyrus Jones was the man deep for punts.
When practice was winding down and the offensive square was running through their offense, Jimmy G. Was cruising along pretty well before he ran into what would likely have been a delay of game penalty. At that point, Belichick walked over with some pearls of wisdom for the prince in waiting. Jimmy then connected with TE Clay Harbor and my favorite from last summer, Chris Harper.
