Early Jump By Dolphins Line?- While I wasn't impressed with the Patriots first possession, I can't blame it all on the players. If you can, watch the third down play where Brady forces it to Gronk. The Dolphins have 2 players who go early and are heading towards Brady before the ball is snapped. It almost looked like a synchronized off-sides as they were in unison breaking through the line before the ball was snapped. As someone who umpires sports I understand how easy it is to see things like this on tape but almost impossible in real life. However, as someone who likes to think of ways to win, I can't help but wonder if it isn't an actual strategy of the Dolphins. In a lot of sports (lacrosse, track and hockey come to mind), athletes try to guess right with their timing to give themselves an advantage. This strategy of have two defensive lineman break the line of scrimmage together could easily make it appear that they went with the snap when in reality they went early. If you saved the game, rewatch this play and let me know what you think. Also keep in mind that the Dolphins had the most sacks in the NFL last season.
Blocked Punt- Hearing about the blocked punt my initial reaction was, "That's what you get for F-ing around with the long snapper situation at this point in the season". Having now seen the replay of the punt, that's exactly what happened. FYI that was the first time Ryan Allen has had a punt blocked in the NFL.
Yes, folks that's my opinion of quarter one. I'm sure I'll have more to complain about when I finally watch the rest of the game. Until then.......
