After a rough rookie season, Cyrus Jones is looking forward to getting back on track and being the consistent and confident football player he had been at Alabama. Besides working hard in the offseason as usual, Cyrus also made a uniform change switching his number from 24 to 41.
Thinking that his trouble with fielding punts and kickoffs might have to do with wearing a different helmet, I originally set out to find helmet shots of Cyrus in college and with the Patriots. Lucky for me, I quickly found the twitter handle @HelmetStalker and realized that he is using the same set-up as he did in college.
Although his helmet from college to the pros has remained the same, I did notice something that he seems to change from one game to the next. If you search through the game photos of Cyrus from last season, you'll quickly notice that instead of being like most athletes and wearing consistent personal equipment, Jones is always switching up his gloves, cleats and mouthpiece. Additionally, while most of his college pictures show some sort of tape on his forearms, every week he has something different on his wrists.
COLOR COMBO TO TRY- If Cyrus wants to get consistent on the field this season, he might consider getting consistent with his uniform.. With his best game being the preseason game against the Bears, I'd probably go for the red gloves, gray cleats, and red mouthpiece.
COLOR COMBINATIONS TO AVOID- The blue gloves, blue cleats, red mouthpiece combo he wore for game 3 against the Texans should be avoided as he had two potential fumbles which were both saved by a call on the field. The all white combination is also a bad choice as 3 of his worst games all involved that combination. Wearing all white against the Seahawks, Jones' fumble was recovered by teammate Nate Ebnet. A few weeks later against the Rams, Cyrus had Patrick Chung recover his fumbled return. The most memorable all white disaster came against the Ravens when Jones' luck ran out and the Ravens handed him his first turnover of the season.
