Yesterday I was listening to the Red Sox game as I drove home from a cookout. As the announcers were talking about how hot it was, they made a comment which led me to do a little research.
The comment they made was that this was the fifth game in a row that the Red Sox did not take onfield batting practice. Thinking about how hot the Red Sox bats have been of late, I had to run some numbers.

Prior to the Red Sox facing the Blue Jays, Toronto was giving up an average of 4.5 runs per game. Similarly, Texas was giving up an average of 4.8 runs per game.
While this may just be a case of the Red Sox bats heating up in the summer, we all know that you never want your favorite hitter to participate in the homerun derby or your sharpshooter to take part in the 3-point contest. Maybe this is the same thing at a team level.
