COACHING RECORDS WITHIN BELICHICK'S REACH

Heading into the 2017 NFL season, Bill Belichick is already the owner of many awesome coaching records.  If you are too old to look at the apology letter Edelman got from his college professor and get motivation, look at Belichick.  The guy was an assistant coach for 20 years, now look at him making coaching history.
Heading into the season, Belichick has a total of 263 wins as a head coach which ranks him 4th.  He is currently trailing Tom Landry (270), George Halas (324), and Don Shula (347).  While needing 84 wins to catch Shula may seem like a reach, if he were to win 12 games per year, it would take Bill 7 seasons.  While fans, players, and coaches are blowing off having a 16-0 record, managing 12 wins per season is pretty pedestrian for the Patriots.
When it comes to winning percentage, Belichick is only trailing George Halas.  Halas had a coaching record of 324-151-31 for a .688 winning percentage.  Bill's record is 263-125-0 for .678.  Overtaking this record is a much easier task since it could actually be accomplished with one amazing season.  If the Patriots were to finish the season with an 18-1 mark, Belichick would be sitting at .690.  While I'm in no way suggesting the Patriots are going 18-1 or 19-0 this season, since Belichick does have a .739 winning percentage in New England, a couple more years of that and he would also get the record.

In my opinion, the one record Belichick should aim for is getting his overall winning percentages over .700.  That is very feasible even if he doesn't want to coach for too many more years.

Assuming Bill wants both records, if he were to coach for 7 years and finish with 12-4 records (no playoff appearances) he would be tied with Shula for wins and have a .694 winning percentage for first.  If his record were 12-5 (assuming a playoff loss) he would still be tied with Shula but now be in second with a .684 winning percentage.  Based on how the Patriots have played under Bill, I think he could easily obtain both records if he were to coach 7 more years in New England.  Realistically, he should have both records as his own within 6 years.  All of these assumptions are based on the current regular season of 16 games and playoff setups with 2 wild cards.
