CANADIENS END BRUINS' WIN STREAK IN SHOOTOUT

Bruins' Johnny Boychuck takes down Canadiens' P.K. Subban

The Bruins returned home to Boston to face a Canadiens team which was eagerly awaiting their arrival and the opportunity to stop the streak.  The Habs jumped out to a one goal lead early in the first period on a power play tip-in by Alexei Emelin.

After fighting off 3 consecutive penalties to end the second period, the Bruins would get the man advantage early in the third.  Unfortunately, the Bruins didn't have much going for them on their power plays tonight and wouldn't get a shot on net.  It would take the Bruins 6 power play opportunities on the evening to finally get a puck past Montreal backup goalie, Peter Budaj. 

While Budaj did have a great game in net tonight, the Bruins helped him out by sailing shots wide of the net all night.  They also had several times when a pass in front of the net wasn't handled cleanly.  Moreover, there were several instances when the puck was sitting in front of the net with several Bruins nearby who were either unable to locate the puck or just couldn't get a stick on it.  Regardless, Budaj had a great game.

While the Bruins looked like they were going to get the victory both at the end of regulation and in the overtime period, they couldn't seal the deal and had to go to a shootout.  The only goal in the shootout ended up being the game winner.  Alex Galchenyuk  would be the man of the hour for Montreal.

Scoring the lone goal for the Bruins was Patrice Bergeron as he got a stick on a shot by Dougie Hamilton.

Next on tap for the Bruins is a matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday night.
