Did you hear that the Rams score a lot of points? Are you worried that the Patriots defense won’t be able to stop them?
Yes it’s true, the Rams offense is pretty high powered. Is it so impressive that the Patriots won’t be able to keep them in check? I don’t think so.
Other than the 48 points they put on the 49ers, the Rams haven’t scored a whole lot since their bye week. After scoring 54 points against the defenseless Chiefs, the Rams came out of their bye and put up 30 points against the Lions. Although 30 points doesn’t seem like a low scoring affair, Los Angeles was only leading 16-13 after 3. With the ball and positioned to go down the field and either tie it up or take the lead, Stafford was stripsacked by Aaron Donald on the the 24. With the extremely short field, the Rams punched it in to go up by 10.
Goff’s statline for the game wasn’t anything to write home about as he completed 17 of 33 passes for 207 yards. His QBR for the game was a measly 45.7.
While this game wasn’t the worst offensive output for the Rams during the season, it was a huge decline from what had been happening. The fact that it came off a bye with a healthy core of players is also telling. What’s it telling? It’s telling me that with a solid game plan and execution the Rams can be stopped. If there’s any doubt that the Patriots can draw up the defensive game plan which is needed, keep in mind who drew it up for Detroit.
