Doppelganger athletes in Boston
By shutting out the New York Rangers 3-0 at the Garden, the Boston Bruins took their winning streak to 5 games and their point streak to 15. The last time the Bruins played without gaining a point was December 27th when Carolina Blue Jackets annihilated them by a score of 6-2. While this is exciting if you are a Bruins' fan, it was completely trumped by an announcement made by GM Peter Chiarelli during the first intermission.
Chiarelli broke the news that 18 year old David Pastrnak will stay in the NHL beyond tonight's 9th game. If you've been watching Pastrnak play or keeping an eye on the box scores, you may think it was a pretty obvious decision to make, however it does have future contract implications. While NHL contracts are pretty confusing, it pretty much means that his entry level contract is now in effect. If he ends up playing 40 games with the varsity this season then he will get to free agency a year ahead of schedule.
