Assistant coach Pepper Johnson was the first of the coaching departures. Pepper had been on the Patriots' coaching staff for thirteen seasons.
CONTRACTS AND CONVICTS: John Lester has said he would be willing to take a "hometown" discount to stay with the Red Sox. The Red Sox signed outfielder Grady Sizemore to a one year deal. His base is $750,000 and can go up to $6 million if he stays healthy.
Aaron Hernandez' contract is still biting the Patriots in the butt. With free agency decisions right around the corner and needing to be concerned with the salary cap, the Patriots still need to account about $7.5 million of their cap number to a former player who is in jail. The fact that Hernandez is being implicated in a double homicide which occurred before getting t may actually benefit the Patriots because it could cause his contract to be void.
