Tonight will be just the 7th time the Red Sox and Reds have faced each other in interleague play. The pitching matchup will consist of two players who have both been trying to find some consistency.
On the mound for the Red Sox will be Felix Doubront. Doubront has had a rough start to the season as he hasn't made it out of the 3rd in 2 of his 6 starts. Although he hasn't given up an abundance of hits (35), he does seem to have more trouble when guys are on base. Opponents have hit .246 when the bases are empty and .316 when there is at least one runner on. In addition, Felix has been on the mound on night's when the defense behind him has struggled. It seems that once things start spiraling out of control he can't put an end to it. In his last 2 starts Doubront has had 5 unearned runs score against him.
Doubront's last start was going pretty smoothly until the 6th when Will Middlebrooks had an error which allowed Evan Longoria to get to second with no outs. Two runs would score in that inning making the score 5-4 with the Red Sox in the league. Unfortunately for Doubront this would be the one game where both Tazawa and Uehara would give up runs.

Homer Bailey will be the starting pitcher for Cincinnati tonight. Like Doubront, Bailey has struggled to find consistency this season. His most recent start was a good one as he gave up only 3 runs over the course of 8 innings against the Brewers. Overall batters are hitting .329 against him with lefties having the greatest success (.431). Bailey likes to work batters low and outside. His main pitches are his 4 seamer (94 mph) and slider (87 mph).
Coming from the National League, Shane Victorino has had reasonable success against Bailey (.364 in 11 at bats). It is worth noting that Pierzynski, Ortiz and Sizemore are all over down and away pitches from righties.
