This game was a great example for showing why wins aren't really a good measure to judge a starting pitcher by. Jake Peavy pitched an outstanding game giving up just one run over the course of 6 2/3 innings, yet this wasn't enough to get the win. Although Peavy didn't get the win, the Red Sox did and that's what really matters.
After giving up a leadoff double to Shin-Soo Choo, Peavy would eventually settle down and put up goose eggs for 6 innings. He finished the day with 8 strikeouts and gave up 3 hits, 4 walks and 1 run. The one run Peavy gave up came on a solo shot by Mitch Moreland in the 7th. Moreland's career numbers against Peavy are now 4 for 9 with 3 home runs.
In addition to being an almost meaningless statistic for starting pitchers, the win is also pretty useless when looking at relievers. Today the winning pitcher for the Red Sox was Andrew Miller. What did he do to earn the win? He gave up a leadoff double which eventually led to a run and a brief 2-1 lead for the Rangers. Luckily for Miller and the Red Sox, Big Papi hit a three run homer in the next inning to take back the lead for good.
Koji Uehara only need 11 pitches in the 9th to close the game and get his second save of the season.
While Papi had the biggest swing of the game for the Red Sox, Bogaerts and Bradley deserve a shout out for showing some patience at the plate. Bradley had 3 walks in the game, 2 of which led to runs. Bogaerts had 2 walks himself to bring his season total to 6.
