ALTHOUGH THE RED SOX DIDN'T SCORE ANY RUNS, PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT PEAVY????  WHAT????

So last night the Red Sox got shutout by the Orioles 4-0.  Jake Peavy was on the mound for 7 innings and gave up 4 runs.  Because people are complaining about Peavy, I had to write this post.
Since being acquired from the Chicago White Sox, Peavy has pitched in 23 regular season games for the Red Sox.  In 16 of those starts he has left the game having given up 3 earned runs or less (one game was this year when he gave up a total of 5 runs).  So what is his record during those games?  4-3.  Really, you would think that if you are pitching for the almighty Red Sox and leaving a game having given up less than 3 earned runs you might actually get credited with some wins.  Nope, not Jake Peavy.
In his 13 starts this season, Peavy has had 8 starts where he gave up 3 earned runs or less.  This season that has given him a 1-2 record.  If you break it down to games where he has given up 2 runs or less, the number of games is 5 and his record is 1-1.  The guy gets very little run support while he is in the game which doesn't give him the opportunity to get wins.

Looking at his run support this season you will see that the team has only scored 4 or more runs for him twice this season.  On average he is getting 2.23 runs in support while he is in the game.  In games he has started, the total run support goes up to 3.5.  Now if you take out the 7 runs of support he got in one of his starts this season, his level of support drops to 1.8.  Take out the game where they scored 5 runs for him and now it's at 1.5.

In my opinion, you might as well give up 4 runs if your team is going to put up a big goose egg for you anyhow.
