Nineteen losses in twenty-nine games is never a good thing.  After having a pretty good month of April the Red Sox really stunk up the ballpark during the month of May.  In their 12 games in Fenway they managed only four wins.  While it seemed like they really struggled against lefties, when the decision came down to southpaws they were actually a respectable 5-6, yes 5-6 is respectable when you go 5-13 against righties.
When it came to one run games the squad was 3-5.  Although it sure felt like the team put up goose eggs on a nightly bases they were shut out only three times during May.  For the month they scored a total of 82 runs while their opponent scored just over 50% more (124).  While winning streaks were few and far between, losing streaks were easy to come by.  The team had four 3-game losing streaks and one 4-game losing streak.
Here's a quick rundown on each of the Red Sox losses in May:

  • 5/1 - 3-2- Yankees - Alex Rodriguez hits a pinch hit home run in the 8th to go ahead
