With the Patriots taking on the Tennessee Titans this week there has been lots of talk about how good their defense is. As usual, coach Belichick has been very complimentary about his next opponent. Is he just blowing smoke, or are the Titans really good on defense? Here's a look at some numbers.
Yes, it's true, the Titans are statistically the best red zone defense in the NFL this year. They are also tops in the league with allowing just 17.6 points per game. When it comes to points given up per drive, they move a little further down the list to 3rd place with 1.7 points. While that is 3rd best, the Patriots are only letting up 1.92 points per drive for 12th.
Going back to the total points per game, I decided to look a little closer into which teams the Titans have played and how good their offenses have been. Instead of taking the easy way out and just seeing where each team ranked with points scored per game, I went the extra mile and removed each teams' game against the Titans. I've also included how many points each team scored against the Patriots if they've played.
Remember, the Titans are ranked number one in the NFL with only allowing 17.6 points per game......heading into their matchup against the typically high scoring Patriots.

In their last 3 games the Titans have held teams to 18.3 points per game while the Patriots have held teams to 18 points. While that's pretty even, when it comes to points scored, the Patriots have doubled up the Titans with 31.3 ppg compared to 15.7.
