A QUICK LOOK AT THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS' PENALTIES

In case you didn't already know, the Chiefs are the most penalized team in the NFL with 143 calls going against them.  If we break it down to penalties per game, that's 8.41.  I thought I'd write a quick breakdown on the highly penalized team before the Patriots possibly benefit from a call Sunday night and people in 44 states lose their collective minds.

Phase of Game-

• 17 Special Teams Penalties for 170 total yards
• 69 Offensive Penalties for 567 total yards
• 57 Defensive Penalties for 470 total yards

Kansas City only having 17 special teams penalties for a total of 170 yards is a bit surprising considering they like to return the ball as much as possible.  Looking at their penalties and recalling a missed block in the back on their 97 yard return against the Patriots does make you wonder how many other "missed" calls they may have benefitted from in special teams. 

Pre-Snap Penalties-

• 45 total pre-snap penalties
• 31 on offense- worst in NFL
• 14 on defense- 7th worst in NFL
• The Patriots have 34 pre-snap penalties, 9 which are on special teams

Illegal Block Above the Waist-

• 9 penalties
• 5 at home
• tied for 2nd worst in NFL

False Start-

• 26 penalties
• 16 at home
• tied for 3rd worst in NFL

Offensive Holding-

• 25 penalties
• 13 at home
• tied for 8th worst in NFL

Last 4 Home Games-

• 27 penalties
• 15 offensive
• 8 defensive
• 4 special teams
