A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS' QUARTERBACK SITUATION

Each day it's looking more and more like Tom Brady's "Wolf Pack" of Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett will be calling Gillette Stadium their den for at least another season.  Is it because Jimmy G. is seen as Brady's replacement?  Is it because holding onto Garoppolo until next season when teams are desperate will increase his value?  While I don't know the real answer to either of those questions, there is one thing which all of the arm chair General Managers need to consider.
New England Patriots AFC Champions
Before getting into my original take on the three Patriot quarterbacks, let's look at each players current contract.

Tom Brady- Will become an unrestricted free agent in 2020.  Prior to the 2020 regular season he will turn 43.
Jimmy Garoppolo- Will become an unrestricted free agent next year.  He was taken during round 2 of the 2014 season with the #62 overall pick.  Current/first contract was for $3.483 million for 4 years.
Jacoby Brissett- Like Brady he will become a UFA in 2020.  He was taken as the 91st overall pick at last year's draft.  His current/first contract was for $3.41 million for 4 years.

Looking at when current contracts are expiring, it's pretty easy to come up with a bunch of "what it" strategies.  I'm sure you've heard the keep Jimmy, then franchise him hypothetical that is popular with the radio station callers this week.  While last week most people had Garoppolo going for a first rounder, this week thanks to Adam Schefter the rumor is that Jimmy G.isn't going anywhere.  Of course by the time I post this, who knows what the current situation will be.

AGENTS-   Besides being good looking quarterbacks on the New England Patriots, there is something else that #10 and #12 have in common.  No it's not their drop-back or their cadence at the line of scrimmage, it is something that Wheelchair Moto-Cross athlete Aaron Fotheringham has as well.  Brady and Garoppolo are both represented by the same agent, Don Yee of Yee & Dubin Sports, LLC.  While some outsiders have looked at his and wondered if Yee is really working in the best interest of Garoppolo or if he's just looking out for Brady, I don't think there is a conflict of interest.  Looking at Yee & Dubin's profile page you can see that they are pretty much the opposite of Scott Boras.  As they say, they are client-centered and not investor-centered.  Because of their stance on quality vs. quantity, I think they are looking at the big picture when it comes to Garoppolo.

BRANDING- Besides working with the two quarterbacks, Yee & Dubin also work with another Patriot fan favorite, Julian Edelman.  Like Brady, Jules has been a good "team player" when it comes to getting paid by the team and using marketing to create a brand.  First we had TB12, next came JE11, will JG10 be next?

NO AGENT- Considering Brady and Garoppolo have the same agent who is all about representing quality individuals, it really shouldn't be surprising how amicable things have gone.  The fact that Jacoby Brissett was the only draft pick last season who wasn't represented by an agent, may have played into the Patriots selecting him.  What better way to avoid any quarterback controversy than to have three quarterbacks and only one agent to deal with.
