Not including the 4 special teams turnovers, the Patriots have forced their defense to get right back on the field another 2 times by turning the ball over on their first play from scrimmage.
Watching the Patriots games this season, it seems like just about every turnover either takes us out of a chip-shot field goal opportunity or sets up our opponents for an easy score. Feeling this way, I decided to look at each of the Patriots' turnovers this season. This is what I found.
Looking at the games the Patriots did not have a turnover this season, all but one were won by double digits. That one outlier was a five point win against the Jets where Gronkowski left the game in the first quarter with a back injury and Gostkowski missed an easy one heading into halftime. Including that 5 point victory, the average margin of victory for the Patriots in games where they didn't turnover the ball is 18.7 points. The following is a glimpse at each turnover this season.
While the Patriots have only had turnovers in 7 games this season, they have had 5 games with multiple turnovers. Against both the Ravens and Texans, the team managed to be victorious with 3 turnovers.
So have the Patriots had a lot of turnovers in almost automatic scoring position? Yes, the Patriots have had three turnovers when they were in position to score. They have also given up the ball inside their 35 yard-line 6 times.
Not including the 4 special teams turnovers, the Patriots have forced their defense to get right back on the field another 2 times by turning the ball over on their first play from scrimmage.
