A LOOK AT ALL OF THE "BAD TURNOVERS" FROM THE MAC JONES ERA

A few weeks ago I posted about all of the games the Patriots would have won in the Mac Jones era if they had scored at least 25 points.  While gathering that data I was also paying attention to all of the games where the Patriots had a horrible turnover which inevitably resulted in a loss and typically assisted their opponents with scoring 25 or more points.  While I've attempted to put this other data to words several times in the last week and a half, I struggled with how I wanted to present it.  After Sunday's horrible showing, I've decided to just put the information out there.  Here goes.

2021- The Rookie Season- 

Game 3 vs New Orleans Lost 28-13

• 3 total interceptions
• 1 INT was brought back to the 9 yard line
• 1 was a pick 6
• the Patriots also had a punt blocked

Game 5 @ Houston Won 25-22

• 1 interception
• INT was the second play of the second half

Game 6 vs Dallas Lost 35-29 in OT

• 1 interception
• INT was a pick 6
• Mac had a fumble on the play right after the team had a TD called back
• the Patriots also had a punt blocked

Game 14 @ Indianapolis Lost 27-17

• 2 interceptions
• INT on 3rd and 3 on IND 15
• INT of first possession after half time
• team had a punt blocked for a touchdown

Game 17 @ Miami Lost 33-24

• 1 interception
• 3rd offensive play of game was a pick 6
• Mac fumble on 1st and 10 at MIA 22

Wildcard Game @ Buffalo Lost 47-17

• 2 interceptions
• 1st possession of game 1st & 10 on BUF 34
• 1st possession of 2nd half 1st & 10 on BUF 49

During Mac's rookie year the team lost a total of 8 games including the playoff game in Buffalo.  Five of those 8 losses had at least one bad turnover by Mac.  Three of those losses included a blocked punt.  

2022- The Patricia and Judge Year​
Game 1 @ Miami Lost 20-7

• 1 interception
• 1st possession 1st and 10 on MIA 22
• Mac had a fumble returned for a TD

Game 3 vs Baltimore Lost 37-26

• 3 interceptions
• 2nd & 7 at NE 28
• 3rd & Goal
• 1st & 10 on NE 44 (when Mac hurt his ankle.....whatever happened with that?)

Game 14 @ Las Vegas Lost 30-24

• 0 interceptions
• Blocked punt giving Vegas the ball on the NE 20
• The lateral to Chandler Jones......TD Raiders, game over

Game 15 vs Cincinnati Lost 22-18

• 0 interceptions
• 1st & goal fumble by Rhamondre when the refs refused to call forward progress

Game 17 @ Buffalo Lost 35-23

• 3 interceptions
• 1st possession of the second half (1st & 10 on BUF 21- ball picked on 2 yard line)
• 3rd & 19 at BUF 22 (ball picked in end zone)
• 3rd & 1 at NE 28
• Special teams gave up KO return for a TD to open the game

In 2022 the Patriots lost 9 games.  In 5 of those losses, the team had at least one really bad turnover.  In two of those games Mac wasn't responsible for any gifts given to opponents.  

2023- HORRIBLE STARTS
Game 1 vs Philadelphia Lost 25-20

• 1 interception
• pick 6 on first possession
• Zeke fumble on 2nd possession

Game 2 vs Miami Lost 24-17

• 1 interception
• INT on 1st & 10 on MIA 22
• Pop Douglas with fumble after offense looked to be finding their groove

Game 4 @ Dallas Lost 38-3

• 2 interceptions
• Pick 6
• Mac fumbled and Dallas D scored a TD

In each of the 3 losses this year Mac had at least one bad turnover.
